[[a prayer for the wayward|Prayer]]To Whom It May Concern:
Please, please, *please* stop requesting cubes of solid tungsten through the synthesis network. The raw material stockpile does not have the supply to continuously honor this request, and it's a waste of the system's time and our lab's money to keep pushing these requests through. Sure, it's 'a fun paperweight,' but please be more mindful of our situation here.
If you see any errant tungsten cubes, you can turn them in to myself or another member of Materials and get free credits for the vending machines. Thank you for your cooperation.

(size:.8)[[[back|Synth Index]] | [[prev|Synth 2]] | [next]]To Our Treasured Employees:
Following last week's memo, we must address some new guidelines re: proper use of the new synthesis machine in the facility.
1. Please do not submit unnecessarily large files or repeatedly clog the system with redundant requests.
2. Use of the synthesis machine to create vulgar or otherwise unsafe for work objects is PROHIBITED! Weapons are also prohibited.
3. The synthesis machine consumes a lot of power; the sinks do not. Please do NOT discard dirty labware with the intent to synthesize new sets. Be a good worker and properly clean your equipment!
Please keep in mind the log of all employees' synthesis requests is PUBLICLY AVAILABLE. Action will be taken as needed, as we are regularly monitoring the system for abuse. Be Safe, Be Respectful, and Be Responsible.

(size:.8)[[[back|Synth Index]] | [[prev|Synth 1]] | [[next|Synth 3]]]To Our Treasured Employees:
Thanks to all of your combined efforts, we are pleased to announce that we now have a working prototype of our synthesis system!
Right now the functionality is quite limited, as we do not currently have a solution to keeping the machine's material stockpile filled. For now, there is a select list of materials that can be chosen from.
Using the synthesis machine should be simple: you must upload either a three-dimensional file of your chosen object or provide a schematic, then select a material from the approved list. (List is attached) Synthesis should take a few minutes, after which the resulting item can be retrieved from the machine.
We're hoping our AI will be able to create schematics based purely off descriptions in the future, but it's currently not fast enough for this yet. There are also plans for a disassembly mode; you will be notified when trials begin if you would like to help test this feature. Until then, you may place unwanted materials for recycling into the blue bins in the hall. PLEASE DO NOT INSERT ANY ORGANIC MATERIAL EG FOOD, BODILY FLUIDS ETC! VIOLATIONS WILL RESULT IN PAY DOCKING, WRITE-UPS, OR TERMINATION!

Short List of Synthesis Materials:
- Common base metals (copper, tin, zinc, nickel, silver, gold, titanium, lead, and aluminum); alloys incl. *quantities limited
- Glass
- Electronic components (Computer chips, PCBs, etc.) *subject to approval, please submit an appeal to Magnus for access.
- Synthetic fabrics
- Synthetic latex, rubber and silicone, see data sheets for information on shore ratings.
- Other petroleum-based materials i.e. plastics
- Wood and paper products (organic materials are still in testing, results may vary)
- Concrete or cement
- Specified chemical compounds *subject to approval
This list is non-comprehensive and is expanding every day. Check in with the Materials department for more information.

We are born in water and die in water,
Dreaming of a place only we know.
One day we’ll see that place again,
A home for the worthy and the lost;
For this world, once ours,
No longer lives in our image.
Until our time comes,
We work and we play in the garden;
One built with our hands
But not with our hearts—
And when the work becomes weary
And the wonder wanes in our thoughts,
We dream, O we dream
Of that place, that silver sea
Where the weary and wayward are wrought.
We are born in water and die in water,
Dreaming of a place only we know.
A place beyond the silver sea,
A home for the worthy and the lost.

(size:.8)[[[back|Literature]]]Dwarves are a race of sapient humanoids commonly depicted in human fantasy and folklore, generally as stout, bearded fellows with a love for mining, forging, beer, and a good time. They do not exist in this world; however, as faran culture tends to be largely derived from the scraps of human pop culture recovered from the ruins, dwarves are well-known enough to have a decent "following."
A particularly noteworthy group of people, having learned of dwarves and finding themselves enamored with their lifestyle, decided to strike out into the world and form a mountainous commune known as Dwarfhome, situated fairly nearby Starlight City. There are no requirements to living in Dwarfhome outside of "possessing a dwarven spirit." Some townsfolk live in public dorms, but the more steadfast types can be loaned tools in order to dig a personal living space either directly from the mountain's face or from one of several communal tunnels.
Most trade for nonessentials is done via bartering -- essentials like food are freely shared so long as one puts in a reasonable amount of work either on community projects or by being peaceful members of society. Craftsmen are particularly drawn to settling in Dwarfhome on account of its proximity to Starlight City, lack of taxes, and ample amounts of workshop space... provided they carve it out themselves.
